WHERE DOES ALL THAT MONEY GO? Since cadets are paid by the Air Force, why do they only call collect, write sporadically because of the "high" cost of stamps, want to use only Mom's and Dad's credit cards, preach poverty when it's time to purchase the Christmas and Spring Break airline tickets and drop endless hints about how "just a little extra" spending money would come in so-o-o-o handy? After reviewing the following, you will know where all that money goes! These figures were taken from the 2001 Cadet Budget, a copy of which is given to each cadet, and the figures are only estimates. Government Advance Pay Loan The government makes an advance pay loan in the amount of $6,500 to ensure funds are available for the cadet to pay the required initial charges. A 24 month payment plan is established to repay the loan and is deducted from the cadet pay. The hold pay account is closed at the end of the third class year. Monthly Entitlements Each cadet receives $820.00 monthly plus approximately $213.00 additionally each year in subsistence pay (meal money accrued at $5.03 daily) for periods of authorized leave and TDY. Payments are made at Christmas spring break and summer leave time.
